The Presa Canario is an affectionate and docile breed. They are great protectors for their family and make great companion dogs. This breed can be stubborn so it is highly recommended to take them to obedience training.
Their coat is smooth, short & fine.
The colors of the Presa Canario range from fawns to brindles/blacks.
The Presa Canario requires minimal grooming. A simple wipe down with a damp cloth and occasional brushing and/or combing with a firm bristle brush is all the coat-care they will need.
The Presa Canario life expectancy is between 8 – 12 years. One of the largest health concerns with this breed is hip dysplasia. Other health issues are:
• Elbow Dysplasia
• Luxating Patella
The Presa Canario is thought to be a cross between the Naive breed and the Mastiff. It was developed on the Canary Islands as a farm dog. This breed was created to catch unruly cattle and wild boars. They protected the livestock from from wild predators. This breed still can not be registered by the AKC.
