Pit Bull Terrier – American
The American Pit Bull Terrier was created by mixing different Bulldog & Terrier breeds in the 1800’s. They were bred to be fighting dogs. Once Bull baiting was banned, they were no longer bred for fighting. This breed is similar to the American Staffordshire Terrier, some registries will register them as the same breed. The AKC does not recognize this breed.

The Pit Bull is confident, strong, intelligent and loyal. They make wonderful family dogs when they are properly trained. This breed is highly protective of its family and makes a wonderful guard dog.
The Pit Bull life expectancy is between 10 - 12 years. This breed is very healthy. Here are a few health concerns to look for are:

Their coat is short & smooth.
Their coat is best when brushed a regularly with a firm bristle brush. Bathe only when necessary.
