Temperament

The Mal-Shi is gentle, loving and makes an excellent family pet. This designer breed is outgoing, trusting and enjoys spending time indoors with their masters.

Coat

The Mal-Shi coat tends to be long, straight & fluffy. They shed very little and are considered to be hypoallergenic.

Coat Colors

The Mal-Shi colors are black & white, brown & white, parti color, chocolate, white, black and any combination.

Coat Care

Daily grooming is recommended to maintain their fine, fluffy coats. Grooming every 4 – 6 weeks will also help to keep a healthy coat. Bathing monthly will remove any dirt or dead hair.

Health

The Mal-Shi life expectancy is between 13 – 16 years. Health concerns to watch for are:
• Ear Infections
• Patella Luxation
• Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD)
• Hypoglycemia
All mixed breed dogs have a better chance of having less health concerns because of their genetic diversity.

History

The Mal-Shi is a designer breed created through the cross of the Maltese and the Shih Tzu breed. The Mal-Shi is recognized by the ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club). This designer breed can also be registered through IDCR (International Designer Canine Registry) and ICA (International Canine Association, Inc).
