Boerboel – South African
The South African Boerboel was developed in South Africa. Nobody can say with certainty how many breeds went together to make this specific breed. Over a period of decades only the biggest and strongest dogs survived - Mastiffs & Bulldogs being a few. Some say they are still refining this breed. The Boerboel became eligible for AKC registration on December 1, 2014. AKC will maintain an open registry for the breed until January 1, 2020.
